By now we know that good oral health is an essential part of a plan for an overall healthy mind and body. Common sense tells us that if we can’t eat the foods that provide the essential nutrients our general health may suffer. There are plenty of foods that are good sources of the vitamins and minerals that we need, your choices are not limited to the foods that you know are healthy but may not appeal to your taste buds.

Any food that is crisp or crunchy will tend to increase the flow of your saliva which is nature’s way of washing away harmful cavity causing bacteria. Apples for instance, stimulate the salivary glands and they are excellent sources of vitamin C. Of course, your teeth have to be healthy enough to bite into that juicy apple and chew it thoroughly.

Meats are a prime source of the protein that our bodies need to maintain bone and muscle strength. If you want to continue to enjoy the steaks and chops that provide that protein you have to keep your back molars strong enough to tear and chew the meats.

Nuts are a good source of the fiber that aids our digestive system. Almonds in particular are loaded with antitoxins as well as the vitamin E that promotes healthy skin. Strong and healthy teeth are good for munching.
